I don’t think anything can calm me as much as writing does. Be it a blog post, poem or even a post-it reminder – I love to see my thoughts on paper. With that said, feel free to share your thoughts on this poem I just wrote (which is why it is yet to be titled hence the title of this post) and the pic below which was taken from a suite in a lovely hotel called The Crane in the south of Barbados.

You know that feeling deep down inside,
A numbing pain you cannot hide.
A hurt so great you cannot think,
Speechless and unmoved with every blink.
The love is thick.
The love is pure.
The love remains even when sore.
The love heals while it mends,
It’s the only cure on which one can depend.
The love hurts sometimes right to the core,
The love forgives and comes back for more.
Say what you will it won’t count
The love endures for those who have no doubts.
Let go of the pain and let love in,
Share, but the love is more about giving.
It is for those who have no boundaries,
Or set limitations on it’s varying degrees.
It is blind and leads with faith
It waits for all to find the way.

Bainbridge Island

I need to write this post before I forget the little details so much that I’m starting it while under the hair dryer at the hairdresser!

Yesterday my good friend Alicia played host with me and took my parents and myself on the ferry across to Bainbridge Island. It was a lovely day! We had burgers/ sandwiches for lunch at Cafe Nola and then decided to check out the shops along the main street to help walk off the food ;).

Checking out the shops meant that all the ladies left with a pair of shoes that we got with some major discounts because they were on sale (I got 2)!! It was fun to explore the shops in this quaint town with some very unique items. Definitely not the average shopping experience you’d get across the water but also very nice. Every store we went to had pleasant staff and in at least two stores we were all having a laugh with the staff.

My sweet tooth got the best of me after shopping so we went to Blackbird Bakery where I got ONE cookie that I kept kicking myself over for not buying more. You know when you don’t buy a lot of something you’ve never tasted before and don’t want to buy more in case it tastes bad? It was the best triple chocolate cookie that I had EVER tasted. Ever!! White chocolate, milk chocolate and semi-sweet chocolate. I’m still kicking myself that I didn’t get more but it’s enough to get me to go back.

I left home in a rush and had picked up my shades but then left them on the bed. I get headaches if I squint too much so I decided to pick up a cheap fun pair while there. And this is what my mum and I left with…

Sexy huh? 😀

Here is a view from the ferry just after we left Seattle.

I’ll try to add more posts soon but I hope you liked this one! And if you are in Seattle check out Bainbridge island! It’s only $7 per passenger and you won’t need a car over there but we took a car over and it was $39.40 for the car and 4 passengers. There are plenty activities but we just wanted to check out the town and have lunch.

Until next time!

Hem-away!

Hem-away!

I once read that having an amazing tailor was one of the best gifts you could give to your wardrobe. No truer words have ever been spoken. Due to my lovely height of 5′ 1, buying pants that fall at the right length is a battle, especially when they don’t come in short. So yesterday I took 4, yes 4, pairs of pants to my seamstress to get them hemmed. I normally buy my jeans from American Eagle, but H&M had some amazing pants that I had to have regardless of their length. I must say, that this back zip makes you go up several sizes! I usually wear a size 6/8 depending on the cut but I bought the following pants in a size 10!!!! I was about to go crazy because  I obviously thought I couldn’t have gotten that “fat”. Regardless of the length, the price ($12.95) and the fit made these pants very hard to resist. It just sucks that I’m paying the same price to have them hemmed… but I will have some very hot pants in my fall wardrobe! I love having busy bottoms and simple tops. To me, my butt and my legs are my best assets so I like to accentuate them any way I could.

H&M $12.95 also got them in solid red

Anyway, a tailor doesn’t have to be expensive, they have to be trustworthy and do a very good job. I found mine a few years ago, attached to a dry cleaner, and I haven’t been to anyone else since. They’re reasonable and do a very good job, and that’s all that matters.

If you’re in a new city/state/country take something simple, and that you don’t mind being messed up, to have adjusted to test the person. The best part of having a tailor/seamstress you trust? Being able to take items and change them up. In this age of people trying to not wear the same outfit twice because of Facebook/Twitter/Instagram, you can take a dress and remove the sleeves or even add a panel of material in a different colour or texture to change it up! Welcome to the maxxinista/frugalista age! Be creative with your wardrobe. Trying this out for the first time? Again, experiment with items of clothing that aren’t new.

Hope this post helped you!
