Ramble 2

Can you believe June is already halfway and also the year? Hell, I don’t even know what I’ve been doing but it’s going so fast. Got my hair cut today 🙂 ready for summer! I am finding plenty recipes for that vanilla crumb cake but I want to buy it not bake it! LOL. I’m not a cake baker at heart……… I prefer to buy it. Brownies I’d do in a heartbeat, but not cake.

I take my vitamins every morning and night but when heat hits, it hits hard! I just get sooo tired!! The cold keeps you up and the heat makes you sleepy.. Where’s the happy medium? Today is a nice day though. I was almost burnt by the car seats when I came out from the hairdresser, but I’m not complaining, waited 5 months to have it happen anyway. The nice days are spread out and luckily so far they’ve been on the weekends when Dave is home.

I’ve been blessed with this awful bloodshot on my toe (from dancing too much in my boots 😦 ) and I’m waiting on it to disappear a little more before I get a pedicure. So I’ve been fashionably wearing this crap (sans nail polish) around with  pride as I know what it is and screw anyone who wants to tell me otherwise soon I’ll have pretty polished toes :D. I mean who really wants to have a bloodshot on their toe when it’s slippers season? Anyway, soon….

I’m going to share a few of my “Summer jams” today hope you like them as well 🙂

I’ll post more another time, but these here are on repeat 😀

All of the Lights…

I know I’ve been M.I.A., but this month has been a roller-coaster in these first 2 weeks. I have a picture filled post for you so enjoy!

This month started with a bang for me – Bruno Mars and Janelle Monáe’s concert – AWESOME!!!!!!! I LOVE going to concerts and the artists sounds as amazing live as on the album! I’d heard a few of Janelle Monáe’s songs but I’m definitely a fan of her now, she’s a true performer. Bruno Mars….. not much to be said here, just LOVES him! The temps have gone up and I’m loving the few sunny days we had! Here are a few pics 🙂 (my camera isn’t the best but at least I got some pics 🙂 )

I also just returned from an unplanned trip to New York. It wasn’t under the best circumstances as a family member on my husband’s side fell ill and we went there to see him. This was the first time I went to NY since I was like 2 years old and it was a “bittersweet” trip. We stayed in Great Neck as it was close to the hospital and it was a reallllly nice area.  While there we went to a restaurant/bakery called Bruce’s every morning for breakfast and it was LOVELY! It was a lot of food and the first morning I couldn’t finish my breakfast… But that was also in part due to the vanilla crumb cake that I mauled before my plate came out, and you’ll see why I had a hard time parting with this restaurant.

While there, it was my father-in-law’s birthday and we went to Matsuya restaurant (http://matsuyasushi.com/). The food was  nice and I’d definitely recommend it :D.  We also took a day trip to Manhattan, the weather wasn’t the best for a sight-seeing trip but we made the most of it. We went to the preview site for the Ground Zero memorial (model shown below), saw the Paramount Theater, passed the Brooklyn bridge (was too cloudy to see it properly and get a clear shot), hung around Times Square, and had dim sum for lunch in China Town.

As I said, it was a bittersweet trip. I met some of Dave’s family I’d never met before and he was able to see cousins he hadn’t seen in a while. Life is full of unexpected events but it’s how we respond that make us better or worse as a person. Also, family is the most important thing in our lives. We’re often brought together during the low points (funerals and sickness) but it’s to keep the bond strong for future generations to come.

You don’t choose your family.  They are God’s gift to you, as you are to them.  ~ Desmond Tutu

What Negativity?!

I am not living for anyone but myself and immediate family. With that said, what is negativity? I refuse to acknowledge whatever it is. Amazing that nothing needs to be said to experience it either! It’s like this: you gain weight and it’s on the tip of everyone’s tongue, whether in person or under your photos. You lose weight and… wait, NO ONE says anything?? They can’t say wow you lost weight, looking good keep it up? Why are you my friend? Why do I still acknowledge you as a friend? I’m not flaunting anything. Only thing I’m flaunting is the fact that I found something that works for me and I’m just putting it out there for you to try in case it may work for you too (as not everything works for others as they do for one person). I know, I know, it’s human nature. So isn’t it sad that with human nature we put down others when they’re low and when they rise we try to find every way to keep them down any other way possible?

I’ve been reading a thread on a Facebook group about why Rihanna didn’t shoot the video in her homeland. I’m not going to even start to repeat anything about the negativity that flowed from that thread. What I loved about the video is that she highlighted something that many young women experience when they go to a party even if it wasn’t on this level. I’m pretty sure that as Caribbean people we have a very sexual way of “getting down” on the dance floor and yet some males can’t understand that what is done on the dance floor doesn’t need to be continued off of the dance floor. I’m sure this same experience has happened to many women and Rihanna’s simply highlighting that it can happen to anyone and she would like young girls to learn from it. Why then must so many people bring down where it was done, highlight the “violence” in it and claim that she is not looking out for her younger audience? I know not everyone is on twitter so I’ll show you what she tweeted:

I am a proud Barbadian and Rihanna fan. And it hurts sometimes how we are so quick to put down our own without looking at the message they’re trying to send or giving the support that is due. Rihanna has put down any negative comments that come her way from whoever – Barbadians, fans, media – and she continues to strive. To her I  say what negativity? People will always be judgmental (I am as well I won’t pretend I’m not) but come on, give Jack his jacket and when someone does a good job, pat them on the back and say “well done”. After all, you’re only giving me an excuse to continue to strive and watch that green monster grow inside of you.

Enjoy the video and understand the message.

Peace, love and positive vibes
